A little bit about me.
Hi, I’m Alison Morris. I’m a doer and friend-maker based in Brooklyn, New York. I love breathing life into big ideas and turning complicated problems into simple solutions.
I spent the last six years building Honey, a modern intranet and internal comms platform that we grew out of an award winning design agency. As a co-founder, I helped bring our product to market, raise VC funding, recruit an incredible team, and steer product and business strategy. As the head of our Customer Success team, my biggest focus was managing all customer-facing efforts. I worked with our fast-growing, global customers—like Toast, Essence Global, Opendoor, FCB, and Malwarebytes—to build, launch, and maintain complex internal comms, employee engagement, and knowledge management strategies atop our platform. You can learn more about my work here.
At the end of September 2019, I stepped away from Honey to recover from founder burnout (which was feeling a bit more like burndown, if I’m honest) and follow my gut around Europe. I’ll be back in New York City in December 2019 and am so excited to find my next opportunity.
When I’m not working, you can usually find me lacing up my adventure shoes and exploring a new city, trying impossible things at the yoga studio, finding new favorites places and pals all over the city, gallery hopping, or learning my way around a complicated recipe. Greenpoint, Brooklyn is home, but my passport is happily well-worn.
And how I work.
Ever since I was teensy, my mom has said, Al could run a small country. There’s definitely some parental hyperbole at play here, but the lady knows me well. When it comes to work, I think in systems, project plans, and action items—not because I’m a martyr to operations, but because I insist on building structure that lets the sparkly stuff shine. I love working with executive, creative, technical, and people teams, collaborating on a roadmap that brings big ideas to life.
As a team member, I’m an operator. I love solving problems, identifying opportunities, creating process, building teams, and executing plans. (Overheard at my desk: Before we dive in, could you talk me through your goals and scope of work so that I can align my team and put together a project and resourcing plan?) As a human, I’m an extrovert. I love unpacking stories, following curiosity, bringing people together, and building relationships. (Also overheard at my desk: Looking at our priorities for this quarter, tell me what you’re most excited/nervous/unclear about. How can I support you to make it happen?). As a leader, I believe that people are the most important asset and that great work should feel simple, thoughtful, and human. Full stop.
The art of exploring.
If you were to ask my friends what I’m good at—which I may or may not have done while writing this content—they’d tell you that I have a detailed mental list of the best places to eat, drink, and explore all over the world. And they’re right.
I love to collect and share beautiful spaces, incredible hospitality, and delicious food. Take a peek at my city lists.
My favorite things.
My wonderful former-coworker-turned-close-friend Kayla once wrote me a list of Things Virgos Like. Virgos very much meaning me, big time. The list reads: Books, Paper, Grammar / Punctuation, Clean Typography, Minimalism, Cleaning, Clorox, Neat, Office Supplies.
I can confirm that this list is, in fact, exceedingly accurate.
